STEM Career of the Week – Programmer!

Each week I will feature a STEM career in my classroom and on my blog. Hopefully, this will inspire students to think about different subjects and careers that may not have been on their horizon previously.

Programmer

Grace Hopper, invented the compiler

Create, modify, and test the code, forms, and script that allow computer applications to run. Work from specifications drawn up by software developers or other individuals. May assist software developers by analyzing user needs and designing software solutions. May develop and write computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information.

Education: high school, certificate, bachelor’s degree

Possible Job Titles: Programmer Analyst, Programmer, Analyst Programmer, Computer Programmer, Software Developer, Applications Developer, Computer Programmer Analyst, Internet Programmer, Java Developer, Web Programmer

Possible Employers: private sector, software, government, military . . . any company!

Famous Programmers: Mark Zuckerberg, Grace Hopper , Bill Gates
